Computers and Learning Research Group (CALRG)
The Computers and Learning Research Group (CALRG) is one of the UK’s leading research groups in the use of technologies in education. The group’s work includes a wide variety of research interests and approaches to studying the use of technologies in education. One current area is the use of blogs for teaching and learning and some of our members are actively using blogs to share their ideas about this. For example Dr Tony Hirst’s blog was nominated for the best educational blog 2007. (See other CALRG members’ blogs.)
The group engages in a range of research activities across five broad themes:
-
Understanding Learners' Interactions and Experiences (includes work of the Accessibility in Educational Media team (AEM)
-
Effective Designing for Learning and Learner Experiences;
We have a particular reputation for our work on evaluation, accessibility and collaborative learning and more recently in mobile learning. Our understanding of how technologies can best support learning is grounded in theory and a concern for the most appropriate methodological approaches.
Our doctoral graduates include many distinguished academics, researchers, and learning professionals. The CALRG has an ongoing commitment to postgraduate research and provides a vibrant research culture for all members.
The CALRG holds an annual two or three day conference to share and showcase the group’s research (see, e.g. CALRG Annual Conferences) as well as symposia on particular research themes which involve staff, research students and external academics.
